Go beyond your familiar!
Do you find yourself stretching to reach beyond what’s familiar or do you prefer to stay safely within your comfort zone?
Your attraction to what is familiar and known could be the very thing that is keeping you from having all your heart desires.
Research proves that we are always prone to stay with what is familiar, even if it’s not a positive scenario. Our subconscious mind scopes out situations and people that meet the criteria of our ‘familiar’ without our conscious awareness. Thus, we live in a repeat cycle of sorts of ‘all we know’.
The effects of your familiar are more damaging than you may realize. Women are shown to circumvent a needed change at work, for example, because they prefer to remain in a place that feels most comfortable. Ultimately, this prevents their ability to grow within their organizations, perpetuating the cycle of undervalued, underpaid.
Something Tony Robbins said years ago has stuck with me as the most crucial reminder of what’s at stake when we get too cozy in with the known. “Everything you want is beyond your comfort zone or you’d already have it.”
Theoretical physicist Lisa Randall shared this thought on going beyond what’s familiar:
"In the history of physics, every time we've looked beyond the scales and energies we were familiar with, we've found things that we wouldn't have thought were there. You look inside the atom and eventually you discover quarks. Who would have thought that? It's hubris to think that the way we see things is everything there is."
There are so many more visions wanting to be birthed through you, so many more ideas to be made possible from your expansive mind. Keep stretching! Keep going past the known to reach the edge of all your potential.
