Do The Hard Stuff!

What’s something hard you are avoiding that you know would dramatically change your life?

What’s stopping you from taking action?

I ask because, having worked with thousands of clients from across the globe, the avoidance of doing hard things is what keeps most from achieving their dreams and having the life they deeply desire.

The biggest excuse I hear from folks is that they don’t have enough information. They’re waiting till they magically absorb enough data to KNOW when to make a move. Sound familiar?

The truth is, you don’t likely need more information. You need more courage.

Nat Eliason,  Entrepreneur and writer provided some great insights on doing hard things:

"The ability to do hard things is perhaps the most useful ability you can foster in yourself or your children. And proof that you are someone who can do them is one of the most useful assets you can have on your life resume.”

“Our self-image is composed of historical evidence of our abilities. The more hard things you push yourself to do, the more competent you will see yourself to be.”

“If you can run marathons or throw double your bodyweight over your head, the sleep deprivation from a newborn is only a mild irritant. If you can excel at organic chemistry or econometrics, onboarding for a new finance job will be a breeze.”

“But if we avoid hard things, anything mildly challenging will seem insurmountable…We’ll see ourselves as incapable of learning new skills, taking on new careers, and escaping bad situations.”

“The proof that you can do hard things is one of the most powerful gifts you can give yourself.”

Glennon Doyle is famous for her mantra, “We can do hard things!” Her deep dive into understanding what you truly want and having the fierce courage to pursue it, despite what the rest of the world thinks, is exceptionally inspiring! (Explore her work if you haven’t yet!)
